CW Speech Training Help Guide

Learn how to train Morse listening with delayed voice confirmation and session scoring

Quick Start

  1. Log in to your account to enable sessions and saved settings.
  2. Pick a training mode (callsigns, abbreviations, Q-codes, top words, or sentence lengths).
  3. Set item count (5-200) and continuation mode (automatic or manual).
  4. Adjust CW and audio settings (WPM, Farnsworth, pitch, volume, filter, QRM).
  5. Tune speech timing and voice quality settings.
  6. Start session, listen carefully, then mark each item as correct or incorrect.

How CW Speech Training Works

This module plays Morse first and then gives spoken feedback after a delay. It is designed to strengthen recognition speed before text confirmation.

Unlike plain copy drills, CW Speech combines listening pressure with paced feedback, so you can focus on recognition while still getting reinforcement after each item.

Primary Modes

  • Callsigns
  • Abbreviations
  • Q-Codes
  • Top Words

Sentence Modes

  • Short sentences (<6 words)
  • Medium sentences (6-12 words)
  • Long sentences (>12 words)

  • Stop: Ends the current run.

  • Repeat: Replay current item.
  • Next: Move forward manually (manual continuation mode).

  • Delay between Words: 1-10 seconds.

Voice Quality

  • Voice Rate: 0.5x to 2.0x (0.75-0.90x is usually most natural).
  • Preferred Voice: Female, male, or system default.
  • Voice list depends on your OS/browser speech engine.

CW and Audio Parameters

  • Character Speed: 5-60 WPM.
  • Effective Speed (Farnsworth): 0-35 WPM for spacing control.
  • Pitch: 300-1200 Hz.
  • Volume: 10-100%.
  • Audio Filter: 300-1200 Hz.
  • QRM Interference: S0-S5 levels.

Use Save Settings after adjustments so your preferred setup is restored next time.

Recommended Practice Strategy

Beginner

  • Start with Top Words or Abbreviations at lower WPM.
  • Use longer delays and automatic continuation.
  • Focus on consistency, not speed.

Intermediate to Advanced

  • Move to callsigns and sentence modes.
  • Reduce delays and increase WPM gradually.
  • Add moderate QRM for realistic operating conditions.
