Trainer guide

CW Message Copy Trainer

Create private long-form material, copy it without visual clues, then inspect a precise alignment-aware review.

Create and save a message

Type, paste or import a UTF-8 .txt file. A blank title is generated from the opening words. Messages are private to your account and limited to 20,000 normalised characters; your library can contain up to 100 messages.

Editing uses a version check. If another tab saved first, reload before applying your changes so neither version is silently overwritten.

Supported text and prosigns

Letters are case-insensitive. Common curly quotes, long dashes and non-breaking spaces receive safe ASCII replacements. The trainer reports anything unsupported instead of silently dropping it.

Supported amateur-radio prosigns are <AR>, <AS>, <BT>, <KN> and <SK>. Paragraphs can remain word spaces or transmit as <BT>.

Standard and strict scoring

Standard ignores case, equivalent whitespace and punctuation presentation. Strict scores punctuation, prosigns and word boundaries explicitly.

The overall score is round(100 × max(0, 1 − edit distance ÷ max(reference length, received length, 1))). There are no hidden bonuses or penalties.

Practice and Test modes

Practice permits pause and resume while recording assistance. Test is intended for one uninterrupted copy; pausing or restarting marks the attempt assisted.

The source is concealed throughout playback. It appears only after you stop and score or playback finishes.

Playback and keyboard controls

  • Ctrl/Cmd + Enter — start from configuration.
  • Alt + P — pause or resume.
  • Escape — request stop and scoring.

Visible controls provide the same actions. Enter always remains available for normal typing in the copy area.

Understanding the review

A substitution replaces one expected token, an omission is expected but absent, and an insertion was received without a corresponding source token. Alignment continues after an early missing or extra character, so one offset does not turn the rest of the message into false errors.

The result includes edit accuracy, reference-copy accuracy, exact-word accuracy, aggregate confusion pairs and a downloadable CSV error table.

Long-message and QRQ guidance

Increase character speed before effective speed so characters retain their true rhythm. For QRQ ragchews, begin with short familiar paragraphs, then lengthen sessions while keeping review quality high.

The player uses bounded look-ahead scheduling and the platform’s canonical Morse timings, with support from 5 to 80 WPM.

Audio troubleshooting

Start playback from a user click so the browser can unlock Web Audio. If the tab becomes hidden or audio is interrupted, the trainer pauses safely and records assistance. Return to the tab and resume.

Check the browser’s site-audio permission, system output device and volume. Current Chrome and Edge are recommended on Windows.

Privacy and deletion

Saved message text never enters URLs, analytics metadata or application logs. Attempt history stores a content hash, settings, score and aggregate errors—not the source or received text.

Deleting a message removes its private content while retaining content-free aggregate history. Clearing website statistics removes attempts but leaves the message library intact. Account deletion removes both.
