Quick Start

  1. Open CW Hangman.
  2. Select category, difficulty, and cue mode.
  3. Press New Game.
  4. Listen to the CW cue letter and submit your guess.
  5. Solve the word before reaching mistake limit.

Cue Modes

  • Balanced: mostly real word letters plus decoys.
  • Word-only: cues come from unsolved word letters.
  • Random: cue can be any unguessed alphabet letter.

Guess Policies

  • Strategic (default): any letter guess allowed.
  • Strict copy mode: guess must match cue letter.
  • Cue mismatch still affects decode accuracy tracking.

Difficulty Profiles

Beginner

16 WPM, longer error margin, shorter words.

Intermediate

20 WPM, balanced gameplay and copy demand.

Advanced

26 WPM, fewer mistakes, longer words.

Expert

32 WPM pace and high consequence for errors.

Morse Settings

Training Strategy

For Accuracy

  • Start in word-only cue mode.
  • Keep cue text hidden to train pure copy.
  • Replay once, then commit guess.

For Speed

  • Use balanced cues at intermediate difficulty.
  • Raise WPM by 2 when decode stays above 85%.
  • Switch to strict mode for final challenge sets.

Troubleshooting

No CW sound

Check browser audio permissions, output device, and in-game volume/tone settings.

Guess button disabled

Only one unused letter is allowed. Enter A-Z and avoid previously guessed letters.

Progress did not save

Stats are saved in local browser storage. Private browsing or cache cleanup can reset data.
