Dedicated Supporter and CW Enthusiast
We're thrilled to spotlight Tommy, a passionate amateur radio operator and valued supporter of our website. Based in Nyborg, Denmark, Tommy has been an active member of the amateur radio community since 1994, when he earned his first D license. His dedication led him to upgrade to a C license in 1995, followed by passing his 12 wpm Morse code (CW) exam in 2001, earning a B license, and achieving an A license in 2002.
Tommy is an avid CW contest participant, operating an IC-7300 with a Diamond antenna from his apartment, and occasionally accessing a TS-480 remote station with a 20-meter beam, courtesy of OZ2NYB. His commitment to improving his skills shines through in his efforts to master head-copying, a journey he's been pursuing with enthusiasm.
Tommy has found our website, created by Oliver, to be an invaluable resource, particularly praising the Morserino features and detailed statistics that have enhanced his CW training. A member of LICW 929, Tommy has also developed his own three-year CW course, which he began in August 2025.
He appreciates the tools on our platform, finding them superior to other programs like G4FON's contest software, and uses them to refine his skills, recently adjusting his Bencher Paddle keyer to 16 wpm to exchange names and cities during QSOs. Beyond radio, Tommy is a trained blacksmith with some IT assistant education and speaks both English and Danish, with an understanding of German. Despite challenging antenna conditions from his third-floor apartment, his passion for amateur radio remains unwavering.
"We're grateful for Tommy's support and his inspiring dedication to the amateur radio community. His contributions and enthusiasm make him a true asset to our platform!"
RSGB CW Champion & CW Academy Mentor
We're delighted to feature Laura Robertson, a remarkable amateur radio operator and passionate CW advocate. Licensed in 2020 as both KO4DFJ (US Amateur Extra) and MM7BFL (UK Foundation), Laura achieved an incredible feat by advancing from Technician to Amateur Extra in just 30 days. She also serves as an ARRL Volunteer Examiner (VE), contributing to the growth of the amateur radio community.
Laura's Morse code journey began with the Long Island CW Club (LICW #665) during her military service. Despite a demanding military schedule, she found success by dedicating at least 15 minutes daily to practice, demonstrating that consistency trumps lengthy study sessions. Her approach of setting achievable weekly goals, such as mastering a handful of new code words, has become a guiding principle she shares with others.
After retiring from the military in 2023, Laura committed to daily CW practice and regular on-air activity. She joined the CWOps Academy for structured learning and graduated in February 2025 as CWOps #3681. During the program, she facilitated twice-weekly Morse practice and homework sessions, fostering camaraderie and supporting fellow students in their learning journey.
Laura enjoys operating from her home shack but has a particular passion for QRP field operations, participating in POTA (Parks on the Air), SOTA (Summits on the Air), and general QSOs. Her dedication to mentoring shines through her current role as co-advisor for the AC6AC Master Advisor program, where she guides new CW learners and finds deep reward in witnessing their growth and progress.
Continuing her commitment to the CW community, Laura leads weekly "No Op Left Behind" (NOLB) student-led Morse practice sessions for AC6AC graduates and current students, building a vibrant community of Morse code enthusiasts. Her advice for those seeking practice groups is practical: reach out to local clubs or online communities, as many have regular sessions or can help connect eager learners.
In August 2025, Laura was named CW Champion for the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB), a role in which she promotes CW, supports new and returning operators, and shares valuable information about learning opportunities. Having tried numerous Morse trainers, she particularly recommends the Koch Trainer and Morse Code Ninja, while emphasizing that daily practice remains the key to mastering Morse code. Her belief in group learning stems from the shared challenges, encouragement, and real-time feedback that most solo learners miss.
"Laura's dedication to mentoring and her passion for building the CW community make her an invaluable supporter. Her message resonates with all of us: 'Keep your spirits high, connect with fellow learners, and enjoy every dit and dah along the way. You're part of a vibrant community!' Dit dit!"
