CW Battleships - Complete Guide

CW Battleships trains Morse copy speed and coordinate accuracy in a tactical game format. You can play against AI or online multiplayer with rooms, turns, and chat.

Quick Start

  1. Open CW Battleships.
  2. Choose Single Player or Online Multiplayer.
  3. Place all 5 ships (manual or random).
  4. Start battle or upload fleet (multiplayer).
  5. Copy Morse coordinate, enter it, and fire.
  6. Sink all enemy ships first to win.

Fleet Composition

  • Carrier - 5 cells
  • Battleship - 4 cells
  • Cruiser - 3 cells
  • Submarine - 3 cells
  • Destroyer - 2 cells

Coordinate Format

Valid coordinates are A1 to J10.

  • Letter = column
  • Number = row
  • You can click enemy cells to auto-fill input

Single Player Modes

Beginner

15 WPM. Forgiving AI behavior. Best for first-time Morse coordinate training.

Intermediate

20 WPM. Balanced tactical challenge and copy speed.

Advanced

26 WPM. Probability-driven AI and stronger pressure.

Expert

32+ WPM pace. Aggressive AI and minimal reaction time.

Online Multiplayer

Room Flow

  1. Create room (public/private) or join by invite code.
  2. Both players place ships locally.
  3. Click Ready (Upload Fleet).
  4. When both fleets are uploaded, the battle starts.

Match Rules

  • Server validates turn order and shots.
  • Hit usually keeps initiative; miss passes turn.
  • Room chat is persisted during the game.
  • Leaving an active battle can trigger forfeit.

Controls & Settings

Core Controls

  • Rotate changes ship orientation.
  • Random auto-places full fleet.
  • Replay Morse replays the active prompt.
  • Pause (single-player only).
  • Forfeit ends current match.

Morse Settings

  • Tone frequency and volume are adjustable.
  • Turn timer can be disabled or shortened.
  • Decoded text and expected-shot hints are optional.
  • Stats track hit rate and decode accuracy.

Winning Strategy

Fleet Placement

  • Avoid grouping all long ships together.
  • Mix edge and center placements.
  • Use both horizontal and vertical orientations.

Morse Performance

  • Prioritize clean copy over speed early.
  • Use Replay less often as accuracy improves.
  • Target 85%+ decode accuracy before moving up.

Troubleshooting

I cannot join multiplayer

You must be logged in. Also verify room code and that the room is still open.

No sound or weak Morse tone

Raise tone volume, check browser audio permissions, and confirm output device.

Move rejected by server

Likely not your turn, duplicate coordinate, or temporary rate limit. Wait and retry.
